November 23 – January 1

So commemorate the 50th Anniversary debut of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood on public television — and pay well-deserved homage to the inimitable Fred Rogers, a longtime summer resident of Nantucket — we’ve dubbed this year’s Chamber-sponsored event “It’s a Beautiful Stroll in the Neighborhood.” Mister Rogers’ legacy remains undimmed. A shining icon of patience, kindness, and empathy for children of all ages worldwide, his deep and abiding love for people and their feelings is beyond compare. We invite you to join us for this jubilant weekend dedicated to a genuine superstar whose beloved Crooked House in Madaket continues to be a beloved island landmark.

At dusk on November 23, a spirited crowd gathers on Main Street for the much-anticipated Tree Lighting and Community Caroling Ceremony. Added bonus: it’s a full moon this year! Our illustrious Town Crier, garbed in his signature top hat and crimson scarf, leads the animated countdown. At the stroke of “one,” over 100 balsam trees lining the historic cobblestoned thoroughfare magically illuminate, enchanting kids from 1 to 92 as heartwarming holiday carols fill the crisp night air.

Our world-renowned Christmas Stroll Weekend — November 30–December 2 — follows, featuring the Jolly Man in Red arriving on Straight Wharf via his nautical sleigh, leading an exultant Parade up Main Street flanked by throngs of kids and adults. The Town is transformed into a scene from Dickens, replete with Victorian carolers, festively decorated storefronts and a bustling European-style marketplace…ensuring that your memories of a beautiful stroll in our Nantucket neighborhood endure for a lifetime.
